Hamsa
The Hamsa, literally meaning "Five" is very often found in the Middle East as a symbol in amulets of protection or good luck. In this painting, the Hamsa is transformed into a rooster -- a symbol of protection. The phrase, "Shmira L'ayin HaRa" means "A Guard against the Evil Eye". The symbol of the rooster refers to our hearts: the rooster crows, but our heart reacts and understands how to deal with new situations. "Chai" is the Hebrew word that means Life. Fish are a traditional sign for plentitude. These symbols epitomize our prayer for protection against the forces of evil. A giclee print of an original painting by Arel Mishory.
