This page is going to be where I can every so often post comments from friends, collectors, and customers. Email me at amishory@thehandswork.com with any comments on your mind. Extra points for compliments.
Here is a Testimonial from Susan Ulster. Susan is a musician, lecturer, and public speaker. and she is a fan of my work. "These richly detailed, engaging works, made of metal painted in bright hues, suprise you with an occasional fanciful trim: a lace tutu, a pearl edged tablecloth, a tiara studded with 'gemstones'...there are bright, whimsical characters that convey messages of hope, love and joy. The rich, swirling colors and deeply spiritual themes draw the viewer in. Once inside, the viewer is bound to stay for awhile, enchanted by all the incredible details in these pieces..."
After working alone (mostly) in my studio - well my husband is at the computer working towards his PhD, and every so often will take a break to help me out with something - it is great to get out into the field and hear people say wonderful things about my work. I can't tell you how those words are balm to the soul of an artist. Of course, as a neurologist once explained to me, artists are constantly searching for a connection to G-d through their struggle with color, paint, etc.
But this is not possible, so artists have to try again and again. We know in our hearts that we have not arrived - although I think that sometimes we get close.
I was recently at a wonderful Festival of Jewish Artisans in Los Angeles at Temple Isaiah. This is a show that celebrated its 25th Anniversary this year! It has launched a lot of artists into the world. The wonderful folks who put on the festival really know how to treat their artists. The people who come to purchase art love it and are not shy about telling the artists! It is wonderful.
I also recently participated at a wonderful Exhibition put on by the Fra Angelico Branch of the Dominican Friars. It was a very impressive evening and presentation. They believe that artists have a vocation to serve G-d through their art. They also did a splendid job of honoring the artists. Below is the piece ("Aleph" 37" H x 25" W) I made for the show. It sold opening night!!!
